welcome back
after a brief hiatus, I'm back on the 'stack, & feeling inspired
I’m back! I’ve missed this space, so to forgo a long list of excuses, let’s just jump back in instead! Shall we?
Here are some things that are inspiring me lately…
Hand Made Things
I know this is a le’ duh coming from me, but it never ceases to amaze me what we can make with our hands. I still haven’t finished recovering my chair if you’ve been wondering, but I am making my first lampshade when my sister comes in town this week. Always having a craft on deck is the fuel that keeps me going. Especially as a mom, I need my things I do for me, & crafts are it. As I type, I just got a request to sew a star over a hole in Dino’s tail. I love it! Hand made touches give things a soul. I saw this quote shared from a BOF article called Why Craft is the True Soul of True Luxury. It really spoke to me, & gave me hope for my own small business…
The Cotton Gin
Speaking of things made by hand, if you follow along on insta, you know I have made several trips to the Texas Cotton Gin Museum. & we have had the time of our lives there! I am being serious. So much more to come on this, but learning more about my favorite fiber, it’s history, & talking with my family about our history with it too, has all been so inspiring. Coupled with this current moment with high tariffs & a made in America push, it has really made me want to find ways to jump in & be a part of the revival.
Summer
Something about slowing down, being outside, & the promise of adventures to come has me ready for this season. We have exactly zero firm plans & I cannot wait to see what comes!
In Person Events
I have been seeing so many great in person, curated, shopping events & I am so excited to be a part of one at the end of the month (Fine Day Fair). The Ticking Tent (pictured) just did an amazing one, with several others to come around the North Eastern coastline. It excites me to see that people still want to come out & shop in person. I hope this new/old way of gathering continues to gain steam, bringing people and products together in a really special way.
In Kind Magazine
I love seeing another revival happening in the form of a magazine, In Kind. It feels like a high end collage, filled with thoughtful essays & inspiration a plenty. Leah, one of the co-founders is also a favorite follow, & is always doing things in such a thoughtful & beautiful way. It doesn’t hurt that the cover is always a work of art & sits pretty on our coffee table between reads.
Doen x Gap
Know this is not new news or that I am first to this train, but I love this collab. I am a Gap loyalist, & love the more approachable price-point of getting a few pieces from Doen as well. It made me think of why things like this go so viral, & a recent great podcast episode on marketing from Goop with Gwyneth Paltrow & Emily Hickey (who helped with marketing behind Doen & many other favorite brands). It has prompted deeper thoughts about my own brand, & who our people are, as well as seeking out other brands with similar ethos. How can we join together? Who would be our dream collab?
Boat Shoes
Also, I know not novel, but I love this trend, & I am not a trend girl. I wore Sperry’s with my school uniform, & love bringing them back as an adult. This, though may be a controversial take: I like to go with the classics when it comes to jumping on a trend. So many brands will try to reinterpret, which is great, but I like the OG’s. If I were to go the high end rendition, it’d be the Jamie Haller version (but yikes that price!), so thinking I’ll stick with these. I also am feeling similar about Rainbows, Tevas, & even Adidas slides. Go real, or go home!
Paracord
Maybe I am a trend girl, because I love seeing this everywhere. I have always been inspired by texture, textiles, & string, so this fits my bill. I am wanting it in shoe strings, to make my own bracelet/anklet, on sandals, or even a bag strap. Feels so camp & summer, & maybe I’m just ready to dive in… random, but does anyone remember the show Bug Juice? Feel like that may need a nostalgic summer re-watch.
I feel like the algorithm is actually working in my favor in this platform. I have recently re-discovered, & am having fun again a social media platform. Wild, I know! It is everything I like: inspirational images, crafts, interiors, outfit ideas. I leave it feeling inspired, not compared to, not virtue signal exhausted, & don’t find myself losing hours with a doom scroll. Try it, I think you’ll like it! Here is mine/kd weave’s if you want to see what I have been pinning.
Rearranging
Our boys have decided they love sleeping in the same room. Smith named it “the bruv patio” & made a pallet on the floor by Hiett’s crib. It was too sweet to tell him no, but when he started telling us his hips hurt, we decided to move Hiett’s crib into Smith’s (bed)room, & let me tell you what… TBP 2.0 has been a hit! It’s fun to change it up, even if its just for a season. & this season with our boys is just the best. Endlessly inspired (& tired!) by them!
Okay, that was fun! Going to try to get back into a rhythm here, so same time next week? Thanks so much for being here!
